Over the past 20 years, CM has been collecting, reviewing, and analysing data on China’s domestic aluminium value chain. Periodically, we publish a comprehensive map detailing the capacity and location of all alumina refineries and primary aluminium smelters across the country.
The new 2026/2027 version has been enhanced to include some major new features, such as identifying bauxite-rich counties in each province (by estimated volume), as well as amperage ratings for each smelter and an identifier as to whether refineries and smelters are majority state-owned (SOE) or private.
