Xiaoyi Tianyuan Chemical, with alumina capacity of 400 ktpy, resumed full operation at the beginning of March 2020, using imported bauxite.

Tianyuan Chemical has one alumina production line which originally used domestic bauxite. The company began to use imported bauxite in mid-February 2020 after completing HT/LT conversion at end 2019. According to a company spokesman, Tianyuan was barely able to achieve full capacity due to local bauxite supply shortages during 2019. Now, with completion of an HT/LT upgrade, full capacity operation is running smoothly using imported bauxite.

The company produced 20 kt of alumina in February with its March output estimated at 30 kt. Total 2019 output was 280 kt and it has set a target of 300 kt for 2020. Tianyuan currently holds no stocks.

At present, mainstream alumina prices stand at RMB 2,590~2,640/t ex-works in Shanxi, the same level as last week.
