SPIC Guizhou Zunyi is set to bring its 1 mtpy alumina project online in early May 2020.

The company completed construction of its 1 mtpy alumina project in 2019. At present, trial operations are proceeding well using low sulfur bauxite sourced from the market which will be blended with bauxite from the company’s captive mines. Formal operation is expected over the next ten days and the first batch of alumina output can be expected by end-June.

The company has set its 2020 alumina output target at 400 kt by using local bauxite, which will be mainly sold in the southwestern market.

SPIC Guizhou Zunyi was designed with 2 mtpy alumina capacity. Construction of the first 1mtpy production line is complete, while construction of the remaining 1 mtpy capacity is on hold.

Mainstream alumina prices stand at RMB 2,020~2,070/t ex-works in south western China, the same level as last week.
