SPIC Guizhou is set to bringing its 1 mtpy alumina project on line in April 2020. The company completed construction of its 1 mtpy alumina project in June 2019 and carried out trial operations in July. However the project has been suspended due to some technical issues – the high sulfur content bauxite from its captive mines for alumina refining. At present, company has sourced some low sulfur bauxite from the market to be blended with bauxite from its captive mines for refining and it is holding 700 kt bauxite in stock.

According to an inside source, the project will formally come on line n 20th April and it will take two months to generate some tangible output. The company has not set annual output target as yet.

Mainstream alumina prices stand at RMB 2,310~2,360/t ex-work in Guizhou at present, down by RMB50/t from early this week.
