SMM: WHO’s announcement of a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) is likely to have limited impact on China‘s aluminium exports in comparison to other export sectors such as food and beverages. China is the largest primary aluminum producer and consumer in the world with the majority of its primary aluminium being consumed domestically in China. According to data from China Customs, monthly exports of semi-aluminium average 300~500kt and exports of aluminium ingot (99.7%) are no more than 50 kt per month compared to actual domestic monthly consumption of 2 mln t to 3 mln t. Considering the exports of aluminium products contain aluminium alloys, China’s aluminium exports represent less than 20% of monthly output.
