Shanghai Nonferrous Metals News

China produced 52.7kt of NPI (in Ni metal) in September down 0.79% m-o-m but up 27.59% y-o-y. Relatively high profit saw the majority of domestic NPI smelters operating normally during the month. During the National Day holiday period, restrictions of electricity supply in IM contracted local NPI output moderately but operations at other NPI smelters in northern China were unaffected.

Looking forward to October, domestic NPI output is expected to drop slightly m-o-m by 2.28% to 51.5 kt (in Ni metal). Of this figure, 44.8 kt is high-NPI, down 2.28% on-month due to extended maintenance at one southeastern smelter, and 6.8 kt is low-NPI, up 2.5% on-month due to smelters resuming operations after maintenance.
