20th February: MNR (Ministry of Natural Resources) and MIIT(Ministry of Industrial and Information Technology) published the first batch of rare earth and tungsten mining quotas for 2020. In 2020, the government will continue to focus on overall control of rare earths and tungsten mining volumes.

 

The first round of 2020 rare earth (REO) production quotas is 66,000 t, including 9,575 t for ion-absorbed rare earths and a 56,425 t quota for rock-type (light) rare earths. The first round of tungsten concentrate (WO3 65%) production quotas is 52,500 t, including a 39,075 t mining quota and a 13,425 t comprehensive utilization quota.

 

Jiangxi and Hunan are the major tungsten concentrate producing regions in China with mining quotas of 18,025 t and 10,450 t as well as comprehensive utilization quotas of 1,700 t and 2,050 t respectively.
