Shandong Luyu Bochuang alumina refinery originally planned to start construction of a second 800 ktpy alumina production line in June 2020 in addition to its existing 600 ktpy line. The plan has been postponed until 2021.

According to an internal source, the reason for the delay is that paperwork is not as yet ready.

Luyu Bochuang’s first 600 ktpy alumina production line is running at full capacity, with May output estimated at 45 kt, the same as in April. Luyu Bochuang typically sells to an aluminium smelter under the same parent company in IM and currently holds no stock.

Mainstream alumina transaction prices now stand at RMB2,150~2,200/t, ex-works in Shandong, the same level as last week. The market appeared flat last week with most buyers remaining watchful.
