18th August: There was a liquid aluminium spill in a Xinjiang aluminium smelter which caused an explosion. In response, approximately 360 sets of 500 kA cells were suspended as of 19th August, representing the shutdown of 500 ktpy of primary aluminium capacity. The cause of the accident and details regarding capacity and duration are pending official notification.
