Lianyungang Port suspended unloading alumina imports since mid-December 2019. An internal source revealed that after unloading a shipment of 30 kt imported alumina in early December 2019, the service was suspended due to environmental issues with date of resumption yet to be decided. At present, shipments of imported alumina will be unloaded at Qingdao Port or Bayuquan Port.

A total of 250 kt of alumina was imported via Lianyungang Port in 2019, down from 400 kt in 2018. Total port charges at Lianyungang Port for alumina are approximately RMB80/t in January 2020, the same level as December 2019.

Mainstream prices of imported alumina currently stand at USD300~350/t CIF China, the same as last week.
