A large Jiangsu NPI smelter has cut operations by running for only 16~20 hours per day due to the recent power supply restrictions. Consequently, the company’s December output is expected to drop by 15~20% m-o-m. During the first eleven months of 2020, the company typically ran at 50% capacity with monthly output averaging 5 kt (in Ni metal).

Two NPI smelters are operational at Ulanqab IM, with typical monthly output of 1.2 kt (in Ni metal), accounting for 3% of the national total. Local NPI smelters will see a 20% drop in output every winter due to electricity supply restrictions.
