Heung Kong Wanji, designed with 1.4 mtpy alumina capacity, suspended one 600 ktpy alumina production line last weekend to carry out ultra-low emission upgrades.

The company has two 400 ktpy and one 600 ktpy alumina production lines. According to an inside source, the company is required to complete ultra-low emission upgrades on all three production lines by end-2019. The upgrade to the 600 ktpy line is now underway and will take 45 days to complete.

The company produced 115 kt of alumina in August with September output expected at 100 kt. It produced 1.37 mln t of alumina in 2018, with 800 kt during the first eight months of 2019 and is aiming for 1.2 mln t of alumina output in 2019.

Heung Kong Wanji mainly uses Guinean bauxite and sells all of its alumina under long-term contracts.

At present, mainstream alumina prices are standing at RMB 2,570~2,620/t ex-works in Henan, an increase of RMB 10/t from the beginning of the week.
