East Hope Sanmenxia completed technology upgrades on two of its alumina lines in early June, adding two LT production lines to the existing two HT production lines after the digestion process, increasing its capacity from 2.5 mtpy to 2.8 mtpy.
The company originally had five HT alumina production lines, with 500 ktpy capacity each, mainly using domestic bauxite. The new LT production lines will mainly use Guinean bauxite and are operating well, with monthly consumption at 100 kt. The company currently holds a 50 kt Guinean bauxite inventory.
East Hope produced 200 kt alumina in June and its July output is expected at 230 kt. The company currently holds no alumina in stock.
At present, mainstream alumina prices are standing at RMB 2,550/t ex-works in Henan, a decline of RMB 100/t from last week.
