Domestic nickel prices continue to fall in December, with increased nickel laterite stocks at smelters and ample NPI supply in the short term. Nickel prices and transactions have been in decline as a result of weak demand, in conjunction with well-stocked downstream stainless steel producers. Several NPI deals were closed at RMB960/Ni unit recently, seeing more than 50% of NPI smelters in loss. However, most NPI smelters continue operating as normal – except for some routine maintenance.
