CNIA: China produced 2.89 mln t of primary aluminium in February 2020, down 6.17% m-o-m but up 6.45% y-o-y. Combined output for January and February reached 5.97 mln t, up 4.36% y-o-y. As of 26th February, the operational rate of domestic primary aluminium capacity was 87.6%.

In the year to date, domestic primary aluminium capacity growth has been slower than anticipated, with interruptions to new startups and resumptions at IM Xinhengfeng, Jinlian and Sichuan Boyuan as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. The restart date of these projects is as yet undecided.

Most domestic primary aluminium smelters remained operating as normal during the pandemic period with no record of production cuts or suspensions during February, showing growth y-o-y in both daily and monthly output.
