China produced 41.3 kt of NPI in April, down 1.55% m-o-m. Of this figure, high-NPI output dropped by 3.16% m-o-m to 34 kt, driven by downstream stainless steel producers’ strong will to keep prices down. Low-NPI output grew by 6.84% m-o-m to 7.1 kt in April.
China’s NPI output is expected to grow by 7.87% m-o-m to 44.5 kt in May, thanks to production resuming at previously idled smelters and by increasing operations led by a rebound in price.
