SMM: China is considering a raft of tariff policies to facilitate decarbonation in the iron and steel making industry. According to sources, the measures under consideration include:

  1. Reducing export tax rebates of some iron and steel products
  2. Reducing or canceling import tariffs on some iron and steel products
  3. Reducing VAT or income tax of domestic iron ore miners

Details of the policy are still under formulation; however, some measures may be introduced as soon as April 2021.
