China produced 10.1 kt of refined tin in July, down by 19.48% m-o-m. One large Yunnan tin smelter halted operations for maintenance during July, but other smaller producers maintained normal operations during the month. The problem of tin ore supply shortages has eased significantly after local mines returned to normal operation in July.

Despite extended travel restrictions in Myanmar, now that the pandemic has been contained in the country, tin ore exports are expected to reopen by end-August, further easing the supply shortfall.

August is typically a low season for the tin industry, represented by limited growth in demand. SMM analysts forecast domestic refined tin production to grow to 12 kt in August after the large Yunnan tin smelter resumes operations.
