 China exported 38.23 kt of primary magnesium and magnesium products in April 2020, down 38.89% m-o-m while up by 0.92% y-o-y. Of these, primary magnesium (ingots) exports were 21.89 kt in April, down 44% m-o-m but up 3.54% y-o-y.

Exports of magnesium ingot and magnesium products both dropped m-o-m due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Domestic magnesium smelters and traders revealed several export orders were delayed or cancelled after 10th April. Furthermore, magnesium powder and magnesium alloy producers reported limited orders after mid-April 2020 amid weak global demand as a result of the pandemic.
