Chalco Huarun is set to restart 250 ktpy of primary aluminium capacity which is currently under suspension and will achieve full capacity operation (500 ktpy) within 2020.

Chalco Huarun came online in Q3 2018 and is currently running at 250 ktpy, half of its designed capacity due to relatively high electricity costs. According to an internal source, it is highly likely that the company will be granted a special electricity price deal from the State Grid in Q4 2020, so it will be able to restart the idle capacity.

Chalco Huarun produced 170 kt of aluminium ingot in 2019.

Mainstream aluminium ingot transaction prices were RMB14,270~14,370/t at Shanghai warehouses this Monday, falling by RMB190/t from last Friday.
