Bayuquan Port in Liaoning loaded and unloaded 120 kt of alumina imports in January 2020, which was an all-time high.

According to an internal source, a total of 150 kt imported alumina was handled at Bayuquan Port in 2019. China imported approximately 1.6 mln t of alumina in 2019. Thanks to the alumina import arbitrage opening on the widening price gap between domestic and imported alumina and strong domestic demand, alumina imports spiked in Q4 2019.

Bayuquan Port processed approximately 200 kt of alumina imports during January and February 2020, and four shipments are scheduled to arrive at the port over the next two weeks.

One berth is set in place for imported alumina handling with a daily capacity of 6,000 t and port charges at RMB42/t.

At present, mainstream imported alumina prices stand at USD310~320/t CIF China.
