Baotou Aluminium is set to start construction of Phase III of its primary aluminium project (500 ktpy) in Q3 2020.
The company’s two aluminium smelters of 550 ktpy and 800 ktpy capacity are currently running at full capacity. The company will start construction of its phase III project in July or August 2020. The project is scheduled for completion by end-2021 and will come online in 2022.
Baotou Aluminium produced 1.3 mln t of primary aluminium in 2019 and 110 kt of aluminium in April 2020 with its May 2020 output estimated at 110 kt. The company currently holds no stock.
Mainstream aluminium ingot prices stood at RMB13,290~13,390/t at Shanghai warehouses this Wednesday, down RMB10/t from Tuesday.
