Guangxi Baise Mining Group has five primary aluminium smelters designed with 1.3 mtpy capacity, of which 800 ktpy is presently operational.

Baise Mining originally planned to expand its capacity by 300 ktpy by end-2020 by starting 100 ktpy in April, June and August. However, due to weak aluminium prices and sluggish downstream demand, the company has decided to postpone its expansion plans until an undisclosed future date, claiming there are no profit margins at current prices.

The company produced 700 kt of primary aluminium in 2019; 65 kt of primary aluminium in February and its March output is expected to be the same. The company currently holds no stocks.

Mainstream aluminium ingot prices is standing at RMB12,600/t in Shanghai warehouses.
