14th Aug: According to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Wednesday, average daily output of primary aluminium in China fell in July. One large aluminium smelter in the northeast region has reportedly shut down, offsetting the impact of increased production in other regions.

NBS’s data shows that China produced 2.98 mln t of primary aluminium, up 0.2% on-month, the second highest in a single month. The highest figure was 3.05 mln t recorded in December last year, but down 2% on-year.

The average daily primary aluminium output in July was 96 kt, down from the record of 99 kt set in June.
