Antaike: China’s output of refined zinc and zinc alloy output grew by 1.4% on-month in August as improved operational rates at smelters offset the negative impact of summer maintenance. Antaike’s survey of 47 zinc smelters showed domestic zinc output was 436 kt in August, up 23.7% on-month. Increased operational rates in Henan, Shaanxi, Yunnan and Gansu counteracted declining operational rates in Hunan and Qinghai and reduced output due to ongoing maintenance at two IM smelters.

With the summer maintenance season coming to an end, domestic refined zinc output is expected to lift further in September. China produced 3.23 mln t of refined zinc during the first eight months of 2019, up 7.9% y-o-y.
